The Philadelphia Story
Our 48th season closes with a classic romantic comedy. Socialite Tracy Lord – she of the wealthy Philadelphia Lords – is getting married. Again. But the festivities are complicated by the other men in her life: her still-charming first husband, her philandering father, and a handsome, cynical reporter. Champagne, clever dialogue and hearty laughs flow freely through this bubbly and sophisticated farce. April 27 – May 5 Directed by Kelley Elder. Tickets on sale now. The Sound of Music
This summer, the TWO Opryhouse comes alive with the sound of music when we present one of the world’s most beloved musicals. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s final collaboration - inspired by a true story - follows high-spirited Maria, assigned to be governess to seven children of a widowed naval captain. As she brings music and laughter back into the home, she captures the hearts of not only the children but of Capt. von Trapp as well. A family-friendly favorite, the enormously popular show features such classic favorites as “My Favorite Things,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” “Do-Re-Mi,” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain.” Performances June 1-10. Tickets on sale May 1. In April 2011, TWO purchased this historic Opryhouse on Frederica Street. Built in 1912, this building was one of the first free-standing movie theatres in the country. Throughout the last century it has always been filled with music and laughter, artists and audiences – first as the Empress and Malco movie theatres, then as home to Goldie's Best Little Opryhouse. TWO plans to continue that long tradition of quality entertainment. Today, even as we use the building for plays and concerts, we are working hard to renovate the 100-year-old building into an elegant, comfortable multi-use performing arts center the enire region can cherish.
